The Detroit rapper Dank Demoss calls for equal treatment for plus-sized individuals after facing discrimination. Now, she compares both groups to LGBTQ+ people through ongoing discussions on matters of *inclusivity* and much more. Read up.

Detroit rapper and social influencer "Dank Demoss", also known as "Dajua Blanding", became the darling of "plus-sized individuals" after suffering weight-based discrimination from a Lyft driver. The instance pushed her to demand "better accommodations" in society for larger people and compare their plight with that of the "LGBTQ+ community". Her bold position has since taken the argument by storm, receiving both praise from supporters and criticism for not normalizing obesity.

The Lyft Controversy: A Discriminatory Experience

Dank Demoss's activism has garnered much attention with a story that has gone viral of a Lyft driver refusing to take her because his car could not fit her size. He insisted that she book a bigger ride, which he later canceled without receiving assurances from Demoss that she fit. Feeling embarrassed and discriminated against, Demoss **sued Lyft**, accusing the company of committing weight prejudice.

This is a growing concern about "fatphobia and accessibility issues" in public spaces, transportation, and social involvement for plus-sized. Several testimonials from fellow aggrieved persons make the case for changing systems all the stronger.

Fighting for Space: A Human Rights Concern

On "The Breakfast Club" radio show, Demoss fervently "advocated better accommodations" for plus-sized people, rehearsing how poorly they are understood because of seating inadequacy, plus-size-unfriendly spaces, and discrimination. She said to the audience: "Bigger people should be accommodated just like we satisfy the LGBTQ+ community."

Her likeness is drawn to the "LGBTQ+ movement" aimed at emphasizing the "battle for equal rights and acceptance in society" overall. Just as sex and orientation should be respected, so also body diversity should be acknowledged.

Mixed Reactions: Support vs. Criticism

Demoss's statement creates a split reaction on the net. "Supporters" argue about equal treatment and accessibility: besides the fact that plus-sized people happen to be overweight from some disease, genetics, and whatnot, one social user even commented:

"Regardless of how she got to that weight, there should absolutely be accommodations for her."

Instead, "opponents argue" that obesity is a "modifiable factor" and should never even be put in the same category as disabilities or sexual orientation. Some believe that encouraging special accommodations could lead to an "unhealthy normalization of obesity". The most common counterargument is:

“Accommodations are for the elderly, disabled, etc. Being overweight should not fall into that category.”

Final Thoughts

Indeed, much-needed attention to the discrimination and discrimination that plus-sized individuals go through has been given by Dank Demoss. Whether one supports or objects to her, spurred on a discussion about "inclusivity, accessibility, and body acceptance".

It should be made clear, though, that in this debate, boundaries must be set between awareness of health and inclusiveness, with all human beings treated with "dignity and respect".
